Summer running expected to benefit D.R. cross country runners

Quality off-season training for a handful of Quarrier runners has cross country coach Steve Hegge optimistic Dell Rapids will be represented at the state meet in October.
Hegge enjoys another year of strong numbers – 43 student-athletes are out for cross country this fall – and one returning state qualifier.
Zane Schumaker is coming off a top-50 performance at last year’s state competition. Dell Rapids lost its other 2013 state qualifier, Lexi Snyder, to graduation.
Hegge said experience is the strength of this year’s Quarrier squad.
“They know how important it is to run in the summer. Both boys and girls are working very hard at practice,” said Hegge, in his seventh year as head coach. “We want to improve at every meet we attend this year.”
