The Dell Rapids Library Board will get a little help from the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission as work continues on the $1.1 million restoration and addition of the Carnegie Public Library.
Library board president Tom Earley said last week that the Deadwood historical organization awarded a $6,663 grant to pay for the replacement of the aging windows in the 104-year-old library. Work is underway.
“It all helps,” Earley said.
Every year the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission awards up to $250,000 to projects outside of Deadwood but within South Dakota.
“We hope this … support and financial commitment will assist your organization in raising any additional funds needed for this historic preservation activity,” said Historic Preservation Officer Kevin Kuchenbecker in the acceptance letter sent to City Hall last week.
Earley said since the council earlier this summer appropriated $360,000 to help fund the project, more private donations have been rolling in.
