PBR staying above water in Cornbelt play

Dell Rapids Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) is hovering the .500 mark after about a dozen games, but the amateur baseball team is enjoying a 4-2 record in Cornbelt League play.
Parkston trounced PBR 12-5 in non-league action Friday night at Rickeman Field.
Weston Hanson cranked a two-run homerun in the first inning to give PBR a hot start, but Parkston, the second ranked team in Class B, scored eight runs in the sixth inning to break the game open.
Hanson also added a single. Other offensive contributors for Dell Rapids were Nate Henry – he hit an RBI double and got on base with a single – and Matt Kolbeck, who had two singles.
Drew Eldeen was the starting pitcher for PBR. Blake Harm came on in relief in the sixth inning. Henry finished the game on the mound, pitching three innings.
PBR 2, Colman 0
Colin Karst struck out 10 Colman batters in seven scoreless innings to lift Dell Rapids over Colman 2-0 in Cornbelt play Thursday at Rickeman Field in Dell Rapids.
PBR benefited from eight Colman errors, including a balk in the first inning that scored a run.
Dell Rapids closer Nate Alfson pitched two innings and struck out three to earn the save.
Travis Peters, Alfson, Landon Klock and Scott LeBrun all had hits for PBR.
Alexandria 3, PBR 2
PBR gave top-ranked Alexandria a scare but Dell Rapids couldn’t pull off the upset, and the defending state champions held on for a 3-2 win Tuesday, June 10 in Alexandria.
PBR was held to five hits.
Dan Conrad had three singles to lead the PBR offense. Hanson and Alfson had the other two hits.
Alexandria scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
Alfson took the loss.
PBR 2, Lennox 1
The ageless wonder Dale Solberg pitched a gem on a night where runs were scarce to give PBR the 2-1 win over Lennox.
Solberg struck out six in the nine-inning, complete game effort.
Henry had two doubles and drove in one run. Conrad jacked a solo homerun. Klock and Eldeen each had two singles
PBR was 4-2 in the Cornbelt and 6-7 overall heading into the weekend.
