Second-day struggles St. Mary’s demise at state

Ethan Schmidt and Nathan Klein represented the Cardinals at the South Dakota Class A State Golf Tournament Monday and Tuesday at Wild Oak Golf Course in Mitchell.
Klein opened the tournament with a 90 on Monday, which put him in the 45th spot. But stronger scores from the field and 95 from the St. Mary senior on Tuesday pushed Klein to the 66th spot to finish the two-day competition.
Schmidt ended Monday tied for 56th place after shooting a 93. The senior Cardinal struggled on the second da with a 111, finishing the tournament with a 204 and in 104th place.
Drew Seubert of Canistota was the individual champion with a 151.
Aberdeen Christian won the meet with a team score of 497.
The Cardinals golf team qualified two golfers for this week’s state meet in Mitchell at the Region 2B Tournament Tuesday, May 13 at the Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell.
St. Mary senior Klein carded the Cardinals’ best score. His 97 was good enough for 11th place and a return trip to Mitchell this week.
Schmidt carded 98 and a 12th-place finish at the region meet.
Cardinal Austin Kubly shot a 111 for 29th place, and Lane Reecy finished 40th with a 132.
