Dells track teams take second in Lennox

The Quarrier girls track and field team got a spark in the throwing events to secure the second-place spot at the Lenwood Invitational Tuesday, May 6 in Lennox.
Sweeping the throwing events, the Quarriers got a first-place finish from Brittany Siemonsma in the shot when the junior recorded a put of 38 feet .5 inches.
In the discus, Siemonsma’s throw of 94 feet nine inches was second best only to Mikaela Stofferahn. The Dell Rapids sophomore’s winning throw went 109 feet one inch.
Dell Rapids got more first-place points in the 3200-meter relay with a time of 12:28.97.
Finishing second in the triple jump for the Quarriers was Maddie Vietor, who recorded a distance of 33 feet 8.75 inches.
The Quarriers finished second in the sprint medley, and Lexi Snyder finished second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:07.66.
In the 800-meter relay, Dell Rapids finished second with a time of 2:01.6.
Brett Nichols continued his dominance in the long and triple jumps when he took championship honors in both events.
Nichols jump of 21 feet eight inches was the best of any athlete at the meet. Quarrier Ty Hoglund was Nichols’ closest competitor with a jump of 20 feet 5.5 inches.
In the triple jump, Nichols put up a first-place mark of 44 feet six inches.
Tanner Ljunggren ended in the second-place spot with a triple jump of 43 feet 7.75 inches.
Dell Rapids won points in the shot put when Ben Hammer beat the field with a throw of 48 feet 9.5 inches.
Ben Gillogly earned the event championship for the Quarriers in the 400-meter run with a time of 54.28 seconds.
Winning in the 400-meter relay, Dell Rapids recorded a time of 45.42 seconds.
In the 1600-meter relay Dell Rapids took first place with a time of 3:32.34.
The Quarriers’ sprint medley team was best with a time of 3:40.76.
