Baltic boys win home meet, girls take fourth

Hosting its second ever track and field meet, Baltic High School was well represented Tuesday, May 6 at the Baltic Invitational when the Bulldog boys cruised to the meet championship.
Baltic won three events in the boys division and earned points with several other top-five performances.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Nick Weber won the meet championship for Baltic with a time of 16.6 seconds. Weber’s teammate Jack Foster took third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 19.6 seconds.
Baltic senior David Boer cleared a height of six feet one inch in the high jump for first place, while Weber had the third best high jump with a mark of five feet nine inches.
Bulldog Kadin Wolff’s high jump of five feet six inches was fifth best.
Baltic senior Kyler Johnson won the triple jump with a distance of 40 feet five inches.
The Bulldogs added six other second place wins at their home meet.
The 3200-meter relay team of Lathon Gorospe, Brady Oyen, Tyler Baatz and Nate Statem came in second with a time of 9:23.8.
In the long jump, Boer secured a second-place spot with distance of 19 feet 11 inches. Johnson was just behind in third with a mark of 19 feet 8.5 inches.
Austin Row finished second for Baltic in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.2 seconds, and in the 400-meter dash Stadem took second with a time of 53.8 seconds. Johnson finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 54 seconds, and Joe Weber took fourth.
The Bulldogs also finished second in the 1600-meter relay and the sprint medley.
Row took third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.1 seconds.
On the girls side, Baltic finished fourth behind impressive showings from a handful of athletes.
Senior Allie Walter took first for Baltic in the shot with a put of 37 feet 2.5 seconds. Angela Feather finished fifth in the shot with a put of 31 feet 10.5 inches.
In the relay events, the Bulldog girls managed the hat trick when they won the 800-meter, 1600-meter and sprint medley relays.
In the 800m relay, Baltic’s team of Mariah Hanisch, Brittany Hazel, Makay Paszek and Madison Polzin finished with a first-place time of 1:57.4.
Hanisch, Hazel, Paszek and Polzin took first in the sprint medley with a time of 4:37.4; and the 1600m team of Paszek, Hazel, Hanisch and Polzin took first with a time of 4:20.3.
Hanisch finished third in the long jump with a mark of 14 feet seven inches, and Haley Fockler took third in the discus with a throw of 91 feet.
The Bulldogs boys 3200m-relay team of Stadem, Andrew Mork, Gorospe and Oyen had a third-place finish at the Dakota Relays Saturday, May 3 at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.
Boer tied for sixth in the high jump with a mark of six feet two inches, and the 400-meter relay team of Lukas Jensen, Nick Weber, Boer and Row took fifth.
