Dell Rapids boys best at 10-school meet

Dell Rapids won another meet title last week. The Quarrier boys’ latest victory on the track and field came at the Beresford-Alcester/Hudson Invitational Tuesday, April 22 in Beresford when Dell Rapids scored 147 points.
Zach Schroeder started the meet off on a high note for the Quarriers with a first place run in the 100-meter dash. He recorded a time of 10.93 seconds. Schroeder was also the fastest athlete in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.03 seconds. He finished the hat trick with a win in the 400-meter run with a time of 52.16.
Brett Nichols earned two meet titles in the triple jump and the long jump. His long jump of 21 feet 4.5 inches was more than two inches farther than his closest competition. In the triple jump, his distance of 43 feet 9.5 inches was best.
Other first place finishes for the Quarries came in the 1600-meter relay, the 800-meter relay and the 400-meter relay.
Dell Rapids’ Ben Hammer’s put of 46 feet 10 inches was second best of any athlete, and Tanner Ljunggren’s triple jump of 41 feet 1.5 inches was also good enough for second place.
Kahler Berven finished second for Dell Rapids in the 200m dash with a time of 23.98 seconds, and Mason Schmidt was second in the high jump by clearing a distance of five feet 10 inches.
The Quarriers were second in the sprint medley with a time of 3:53.66, and Riley Jurgenson was third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.98.
