Scholten, Michel lead Cardinals in Garretson

Jumping and distance running continue to be a strong suit for St. Mary High School’s track and field teams as the Cardinals saw a handful of podium finishes from a few student athletes Saturday, April 12 at the Jesse James Invitational in Garretson.
On the boys side, the Cardinals finished sixth as a team with 63.5 points.
The 1600-meter run was one of the Cardinal boys’ best events of the day. Jared Scholten finished second in the event with a time of 5:06.0. Mitch Roemen’s time of 5:16.4 was good enough for sixth, and Micah Roemen finished eighth with a time of 5:36.5.
Scholten took first place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:49.1.
In the long jump, Jacob Glazier was best of all competitors with a distance of 19 feet two inches. Christian Schnieders was sixth in the event with a distance of 17 feet 11.75 inches.
Glazier finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet nine inches.
Dalton Houska’s 110-meter hurdles time of 21 seconds was good enough for seventh place.
In the high jump, Noah Fiegen earned fifth place by clearing five feet six inches.
Fiegen took seventh place in the discus with a toss of 117 feet 10 inches.
The Cardinals earned points with a seventh place finish in the 400-meter relay with a time of 50.3 seconds.
A time of 1.42.9 in the 800-meter relay was good enough to get the Cardinals a fifth place finish.
In the 3200-meter relay, the Cardinals finished third with a time of 9:13.1.
In the 1600-meter sprint medley, the Cardinals finished sixth with a time of 4:25.5.
Josh Brown finished 10th in the 100-meter dash when he finished the run in 12.1 seconds.
In the 200-meter dash, St. Mary’s best finish came from Ariel Palomino Herrara, who finished 15th with a time of 25.8
Evan Brown had the Cardinals top finish in the 400-meter dash. His time of 1:05.1 was good enough for 20th place.
Kelly Michel led the St. Mary’s girls team. She finished ninth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.3 seconds. She finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.7 seconds.
Jackie Wolles finished eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:55.5. Christina Vogel finished 10th in the same event with a time of 3:02.2.
In the 1600-meter run, Anna Wolles finished sixth with a time of 6:15.0. Jackie Wolles finished seventh with a time of 6:37.0, and Vogel finished eighth with a time of 6:44.0.
Anna Wolles finished third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:53.0.
The Cardinals earned points by finishing fifth in the 400-meter relay with a time of 57.8 seconds.
