With the Dell Rapids School Board eyeing the sale of the old elementary school, district administration is looking for a realty company to list the building.
The old elementary school at 613 N. State Ave. was declared surplus property by the Dell Rapids School Board in February after board members decided the building has no educational value.
The building is unused by the district since its new elementary school on 15th Street opened in January 2012.
Nearly $2 million worth of upgrades were made in 2009 and 2010 when the heating and cooling system and the roof were replaced.
District Superintendent Summer Schultz said she’s reached out to local realty companies like Schwebach Realty and Landmark Realty for rate information. The board is expected to approve a contract in April.
The building was appraised last fall, but the value hasn’t been made public.
Statute prohibits the board from selling surplus property for less than 90 percent of the appraised value.
