Argonne Trust Company has sixth months to find a new place of business.
After chartering in South Dakota in 2012, the financial investment firm faced strong opposition when it moved to Dell Rapids last summer. After purchasing the former Episcopal Church at 506 east Sixth Street for $230,000 in June 2013, neighborhood residents successfully pressured city officials to deny Argonne’s attempts to rezone its newly acquired lot.
Monday, March 3, two weeks after opting against adopting a new ordinance designed to allow the council to grant a conditional use permit to businesses wanting to use a structure built for the purposes of organized religion, the Dell Rapids City Council gave Argonne a sixth month grace period to get its Fifth Street property into compliance with city code.
