Five Quarrier wrestlers finish in top four at conference meet

The Quarrier wrestling squad placed fourth, and five wrestlers finish in the top four of their weight classes Saturday at the Dakota 12 Conference Tournament in North Sioux City.
Wrestling at 138 pounds, Sutton Adams opened his day by pinning Canton’s Kyle Peterson in four minutes and 44 second. Adams won by default over Lennox’s Isaiah Smidt in the championship match.
Top ranked 220-pounder Leon Maxwell was champion of his class, picking up three pins on his way to the title.
Maxwell’s first victim was Lennox’s Sam Metivier, who Maxwell stuck in one minute and 36 seconds.
Tristan Lutter of Beresford suffered a second round pin against Maxwell, lasting just 10 seconds longer than Metivier.
In the championship match, Maxwell pinned Canton’s Riley Ostbye with 55 seconds left in the second round.
Dell Rapids’ 285-pounder, Jacob Habeger, earned a second place finish after taking two of three matches.
In the first round, Haberger pinned Beresford’s Connor Hoy 52 seconds into the second period
The second round proved to be a greater challenge for Haberger. But the Quarrier senior again came out on top, beating West Central’s Hunter Hanley in a 5-0 decision.
Haberger couldn’t finish the trifecta and fell in a 1-0 decision to Canton’s Chase Beitzel in the championship round.
At 160 pounds, Dell Rapids’ Austin Eulberg finished with a third place title. He started the day strong when he pinned West Central’s Jonah Rectenbaugh in one minute and 37 seconds.
In the second round, Canton’s Alex Davies sent Eulberg to the consolation bracket by pinning the Quarriers 48 seconds into the second period.
To get a chance at the third place title, Eulberg beat Trevor Hallman with a 12-0 major decision.
Eulberg clinched the third place finish with one final pin against Beresford’s Trent Lyle. The final whistle blew with 10 seconds left in the second period.
Brock Reinhiller, the Quarriers’ 170-pound wrestler, placed fourth at the tournament. After beating Beresford’s Eli Orr in a 5-0 decision to get a chance at third place, Reinhiller lost 2-0 to Canton’s Austin Scheuers.
The Quarriers finished with a 102.5 points as a team, good enough for fourth place. Canton won the tournament with 209.5 points.
The Quarriers won two of three duals during the Lincoln High Quadrangular Thursday in Sioux Falls.
Dell Rapids wrestlers earned five pins as the Quarriers topped Milbank 46-36.
At 145 pounds, Lathon Gorospe pinned Milbank’s Mark VanDover in a minute and 36 seconds.
At 152 pounds, Jacob Huewe pinned Ben Nelson in a minute and 29 seconds.
At 170 pounds, Eulberg pinned Ryker Reil with 49 seconds left in the second period.
At 195 pounds, Reice Tiernan pinned Caden Wollschlager in a minute and 18 seconds.
At 220 pounds, Maxwell made quick work of Tanner Kettwig. He pinned the Milbank wrestler in a minute and nine seconds.
The Quarriers won their dual with Lincoln 51-21, picking up five more pins in the victorious effort.
At 132 pounds, James Lueders pinned Lincoln’s Omari Boas in two minutes and 45 seconds.
Huewe picked up pin points for Dell Rapids by pinning Luke Jamison in three minutes and 49 seconds.
Eulberg pinned Logan Dahl in the 160-pounds slot after five minutes and 28 seconds of wrestling.
At 170 pounds, Reinhiller pinned Max Hooker in a minute and 34 seconds.
Tiernan, wrestling at 183 pounds, pinned Logan Pfiefer in 50 seconds.
Roosevelt topped Dell Rapids 59-18 in a dual where the Quarriers won just four matches, one by forfeit.
Eulberg defeated Roosevelt’s 160-pounder, Sean Mullenburg, in a 14-11 decision.
Reinhiller defeated Ibrahim Diomande in a 8-3 decision.
At 285, Haberger pinned Roosevelt’s Austin Bolich in four minutes and 50 seconds.
