A reported robbery Thursday evening in Dell Rapids turned out to be unfounded when the store clerk found the money he thought was missing.
Shannon Moran was working at his family’s downtown Dell Rapids store, Chateau de Moran, Thursday when he stepped away to take a phone call. During his phone call, he heard a customer leave the store. Thinking the customer’s quick exit was strange, said Deputy Sgt. Preston Evans, Moran checked the cash register before alerting authorities about $175 that he thought was missing.
Four Minnehaha County Sheriff squad cars responded to the call at about 5:30 p.m. before Moran realized the money had been placed in a safe at an earlier time.
“It was some sort of misunderstanding and there was no robbery,” Deputy Sgt. Mike Walsh said Friday. “He found the money he thought was taken in the safe.”
