The Cardinals stayed perfect in the young football season with another convincing win, this time a 58-14 triumph over the Raiders in Rutland.
St. Mary (3-0) dominated Oldham-Ramona/Rutland from the first whistle on, piling up 406 total yards while holding the Raiders to just 143.
“Our kids played hard, they came out and took control of the game from the start,” said Ross Flemmer, Cardinal head coach.
Where their opponent struggled – the Raiders didn’t have a single rushing yard – the Cardinals flourished.
Again being lead by Josh Brown and Ben Bunkers, St. Mary moved the ball with ease through the ground game. Brown recorded 108 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also threw for 84 yards.
Bunkers had a pair of rushing scores of his own. His ground production came on seven carries for 83 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, St. Mary’s Jared Scholten had five tackles, while teammate Casey Hansen had 3.5 tackles and an interception. Leon Maxwell recorded 3.5 tackles, and added a sack.
“The defense played fast and aggressive, and our offense executed well,” Flemmer said.
Other contributors for the Cardinal offense: Mitch Brown had 33 yards on six carries and a two-yard TD. Sam Schwebach and Garret Frost each had one-yard TD runs. Christian Schnieders had a two-yard TD run.
