Girls track team shows strengths in Beresford

The Quarrier girls track team earned a third place finish at the Beresford Alcenster-Hudson track and field meet Tuesday, April 16 in Beresford with strong performances by the usual suspects.
The 71 points earned by Dell Rapids athletes was topped only by Sioux Falls Christian and Canton with 138 and 126 respectively.
Senior Morgan Hoglundís triple jump of 31-9.5 was good enough for first place. Hoglundís fellow jumper and teammate Maddie Vietor finished third with a triple jump of 31-0.
Senior Cassidy Wright took second in both the shot and disc with throws of 37-7.5 and 111-11.
Also taking second for the Quarriers was the 1600-meter relay team. Made up of runners Karen Eddy, Rachel Devlin, Averi Pankonen and Corynn Hoff, the second place team finished with a time 4:36.58.
Vietor, a junior, earned third place in the long jump with 14-9.
Fourth place winners for Dell Rapids were Brittney Siemonsma in the shot, Averi Pankonen in the 100-meter relay, the 400-meter relay team of Hoglund, Rachel Devlin, Sami Reider and Kiah Schumacher, the 800-meter relay team of Eddy, Pankonen, Devlin and Hoff and the 3200-meter relay team of Lexi Snyder, Jessica Tisher, Hannah Fiedler and Cheyenne Spielmann.
Earning fifth place finishes for the Quarriers were Mikaela Stofferahn in the shot, Tisher in the triple jump, Hoff in the 400 meter and Hoglund in the 100-meter hurdles.
The medley relay team of Karlie Leighton, Margo Hegge, Megan Miles, and Fiedler finished sixth.
