Bulldog Girls Basketball: Baltic readies for tough district play
Girls look to transition game for edge

The easy transition from offense to defense is a key part of the Baltic Bulldog girls basketball program this year, and coach Pete Egstad hopes the team can get on the same page in these early practices.
The squad began meeting last Monday, and the team is gearing up for a successful string of games through the winter.
“We’ve got a group of girls that have put in a lot of hard work in the off-season,” Egstad said of his 14-person team, which includes four seniors.
“We have some good leadership,” he said. “(We have) four players that saw quite a bit of experience last year on the varsity level.”
And versatility, including the ability to play both sides of the court, is a key part of preparing the girls for competition. “We want to be a team that is fun to watch and fun to play,” the coach said.
And with dual conference membership in the Tri-Valley and Big East settings, Baltic faces a handful of tough district competitors, including last year’s championship winner Sioux Falls Christian. The Bulldogs faced the Charger team in the finals for the district last season.
“It’s always a tough district,” Egstad said. “Hopefully at the end of the year we’re clicking and ready to go for that competition.”
The Baltic coach hopes the team’s experience from last year’s championship bout, as well as daily, continual improvement in prepping, will propel the girls through the end-of-the-season run.
Touting strong overall guard play, quickness and shooting accuracy, Egstad said the Baltic team should be a competitive squad this season.
“Hopefully that’ll show in our transition game,” he said, “being able to push the ball up and down the court.”
