Cardinals close season with doubleheader
Volleyball team downs Colman-Egan

The season came to a close for the St. Mary Cardinal girls last week, though an Oct. 30 doubleheader brought the volleyball team close to a district final title.
Starting with a Colman-Egan match-up, the girls traveled to Chester to take on the C-E Hawks, where the Cardinals defeated their opponents 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 14-25, 25-21, 15-12).
Leading the Dells digging were Lexie LeBrun and Mikayla Brown, who picked up 16 for the match, while Kelly Michel contributed 15, Danielle Fiegen 13, Abby Siemonsma 12, Anna Maxwell eight and Tori Michel seven.
Siemonsma also helped out with the scoring efforts with 12 assists, while Tori Michel posted seven and Brown and Rachel Scholten five apiece.
Brown additionally knocked down four aces versus the C-E Hawk defense.
Fiegen led in kills, totaling nine to Ally Mullaney and LeBrun’s eight each. Kelly Michel picked up five kills for the match, while Scholten added four more to the Dells tally.
And with a Colman-Egan victory behind them, the Cardinals faced Chester the same night, resulting in a 0-3 loss for St. Mary (6-25, 12-25, 17-25) and ending the season with a 13-18 record.
“Although we were disappointed that we lost to Chester (…) I was very proud of the girls,” coach Marcee Irlbeck said.
In this match, Kelly Michel totaled five digs and a kill for the night, while LeBrun put up a service ace. Mullaney knocked down two kills, and Fiegen brought down five.
Tori Michel and Siemonsma assited five times on the match, and Brown provided three kills. Rounding out the St. Mary efforts was Maxwell, who numbered four digs and a kill versus Chester.
