Heading into district play this week, the Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball squad fell in two matches Oct. 22 and 25.
Firstly, the girls lost a Big Sioux Conference match versus Beresford, 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 13-25, 23-25). Morgan Hoglund helped lead the team’s efforts with 12 service points and 11 digs, while Cassidy Wright brought down nine kills for the Dell Rapids cause.
Both the junior varsity and “C” squads made quick work of defeating Beresford, each 2-0. Coach Dale Solberg cited efforts from Jordan Stone, Brittnay Welbig, Brittney Siemonsma and Cheyenne Spielmann on the JV match and Mara Adams, Megan Welbig and Hannah Welbig for the “C” match. The coach said the latter played “their best sets of the year.”
Next up was an additional conference meet-up with the Dakota Valley Panthers. The Dells girls fell to the Panthers in three sets (19-25, 6-25, 18-25), in the last regular-season match of the season.
Seniors Margo Hegge, Hoglund, Aleza Kirschenmann, McKenzie Rinehart and Wright closed out their last regular season with the Quarriers.
Hoglund picked up 12 digs and five service points for the night, while Hegge grabbed four digs, four service points and six set assists. Wright knocked down seven kills.
Solberg relayed that the Quarrier players “would like to thank the fans for their vocal support” this season.
The Quarriers sit at the No. 3 seed heading into playoffs, and the team will have hosted Baltic Tuesday night, with the winner moving on to round two, versus either Sioux Falls Christian or Garretson.
