Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the National Little Britches Rodeo (LBR) finals in Pueblo, Colo., had a local competitor in the mix. Drew Stroschein, son of Kari and Chad Stroschein of Dell Rapids, took home the finals all-around reserve champion and world all-around reserve champion titles, among others, at the July 23-28 event.
Stroschein, whose sister Hannah, 10, also competes in LBR in the junior girls’ division, garnered 15 buckles at the event, as well as scholarship money. Among the events Drew competed in were flag racing, goat tail untying, pole bending and barrel racing.
Both Drew and sister Hannah were selected to the National LBR “top hand team.”
Nearly 850 finalists participated in this year’s National LBR competition, with 27 states represented. About $260,000 in prize money was awarded in total at the event, which is open to youth ages five through 18.
