St. Mary netters drop Freeman match, take Estelline win

The St. Mary Cardinals saw a narrow defeat versus Freeman last week, as an Oct. 1 match yielded a 3-2 win for the opponents.
With set scores at 17-25, 25-17, 25-27, 25-23 and 9-15, the teams played back-and-forth before a succinct ending blow by Freeman to close the match.
Leading the cause were Kelly Michel and Mikayla Brown, who each tallied five kills for St. Mary, while Danielle Fiegen posted four and Ally Mullaney three.
Fiegen additionally kicked up seven ace serves, while Lexie LeBrun contributed three. Abby Siemonsma provided the Cardinals seven set assists on the match, while Tori Michel tallied five.
Dig leader for the night was LeBrun, who brought up 18 to Kelly Michel’s 10. Anna Maxwell and Mullaney rounded out the efforts with seven each.
Following the loss, the St. Mary team took on Estelline Oct. 4 for a Cardinal victory. With set scores of 25-13, 12-25, 25-13, 19-25 and 15-12, St. Mary walked away with its 10th match win of the season.
