Young runners excel at Big Sioux meet
Dells hosts area teams in conference cross country event

Hosting the Big Sioux Conference meet last week, the Dell Rapids Quarrier cross country team posted a few individual high marks throughout the varsity and junior varsity rosters.
Finishing up the day in fifth place, the varsity girls team landed one runner in the top 20 for the day, Corynn Hoff (16th place, 17:08). Canton came out on top in the girls varsity race, while Dakota Valley and Beresford logged in second and third place in the team totals.
Also running toward the top for Dell Rapids were Lexi Snyder (17:25), Averi Pankonen (17:38), Shaylee Hoff (17:41) and Jessica Tisher (18:22).
The varsity boys ranked sixth in the team totals, with Beresford dominating the boys field and ranking first. Canton came in second, while Dakota Valley ended up third in the race.
Zane Schumaker came off best for Dell Rapids, placing 10th overall (19:04), while Brett Mogen (20:10), Alec Riswold (20:30), Ted DeLange (20:37), Micah Roemen (20:42) and Nick Holmes (21:40) rounded out the Quarrier efforts.
Dell Rapids Public managed several successes in the junior varsity area, placing Caleb Kirschenmann in second place with a final time of 15:29, as well as five girls in the top 20 runners: Meg Dearduff (6th place, 18:34), Mikayla DeNoon (8th place, 18:35), Kaylee Hennen (15th place, 19:20), Lindsey Morris (17th place, 19:23) and Melanie Wilke (19th place, 19:30).
Also running for the JV boys were Sam VanVoorst (12th place, 16:56), Jason Cook (15th place, 17:08), Tyler Dishman (17:53) and Derek Ahlers (19:23). JV girls additionally running included Amanda Tomes (20:37), Ilenne Jaycox (22:00), Kalista Graham (22:03) and Shaina Visser (22:09).
