Cardinal girls take on Baltic, ELB squads
St. Mary keeps close in week’s VB matches

The Cardinal girls volleyball team took on two matches last week, with St. Mary falling to the Baltic Bulldogs Sept. 25 and to Elkton-Lake Benton Sept. 27.
The first match at home handed St. Mary a 3-1 loss, with set scores at 25-22, 26-28, 15-25 and 23-25. The Cardinals stayed close to Baltic, posting high marks in digs. Anna Maxwell, Tori Michel and Mikayla Brown logged the most, with nine apiece, while Lexie LeBrun and Kelly Michel each picked up seven digs.
Abby Siemonsma provided eight set assists for the Dells team, while LeBrun and Tori Michel each set up four.
LeBrun and Danielle Fiegen led in kills, with seven each, while Brown added six more to the tally. Fiegen additionally picked up the most service aces, with seven by match’s end.
The girls then traveled to Lake Benton, Minn., to take on the Elks Sept. 27. This match ended with a 0-3 win for the host team (21-25, 18-25, 11-25).
Kelly Michel dug for 11 successful attempts in the match, while Maxwell brought in eight digs for Dell Rapids. Fiegen provided three set assists for the girls, and Siemonsma served two aces against the ELB defense.
Kill leader was Ally Mullaney, who knocked down six to LeBrun’s four.
The Cardinals now sit at 9-11 for the season.
