Though the Titans stayed hot on their tails throughout the game, the Dell Rapids Quarriers’ Homecoming football game Friday proved a win for the host team in the long run.
Tea Area made the first move in quarter one, posting seven points to the scoreboard off of a 16-yard run. But the Quarriers answered back, running in Matt Kolbeck for the first Dells touchdown.
First-quarter scoring did not stop there, though, as Tea picked up another touchdown to bring the score to 14-6, while Dells ended the period with a touchdown courtesy of Lane LeBrun and a two-point conversion from Kolbeck to Zach White to tie the game, 14-14.
The second quarter kept the scoring going as Cole Langer posted a touchdown off of a 40-yard breakaway, taking the lead for Dell Rapids. But Tea came out on top for the first half totals, scoring two more touchdowns by halftime, 27-21.
The Quarriers cemented their victory during the third quarter, however, as Riley Schmidt and Langer each ran in a touchdown for Dells and Kolbeck connected with Bryce Koch for the team’s 42-27 lead going into the fourth.
While Tea managed two more trips to the endzone in the final period of the game, Dells kept on top thanks to another Kolbeck-to-Koch pass that ended the match-up 49-40.
Schmidt led the local boys in kickoff returns for the night, bringing in 149 yards throughout the duration, while Brett Nichols moved the ball 20 yards on punt returns.
Langer led the squad’s rushing efforts, with 176 yards, while LeBrun ran 106 and Schmidt 68 for the Quarriers. Kolbeck tallied 95 yards in connected passing with zero interceptions, while Koch received for 61 yards and Jacob Morris 34.
Defensively, Langer led the team with 9.5 tackles, while Morris, Ryan Nichols and Cody Nielsen assisted, with 6.5, 5 and 5 tackles, respectively.
The Dell Rapids players now sit at 4-1 for the season, maintaining the top rank in Region 1 of Class 11A.
