Cross Country Briefs: JV runners excel at recent invites

**Arlington Invite**
The Sept. 11 cross country invitational at Arlington brought the Baltic Bulldog runners to the mix, with top 10 finishes for the squad in both the varsity boys and junior varsity girls races.
For the boys, Baltic posted an eighth place finish for Matt Moen (19:36), while fellow varsity runner Noah Brown placed 17th (23:55) out of the 26 running in the event.
Pulling in 12th place for the JV boys, Tanner DeLoy finished the day with a 13:14 final time, while Isaac Land placed 13th (13:15).
Eric Mohr grabbed 16th place (13:33), Drew Stadem was 18th (13:36) and Karson Koopman finished 22nd (14:45).
For the girls junior varsity runners, Baltic landed Mariah Schroeder in sixth in the 21-wide field, with a time of 14:50, while Kayla Kappler finished the race in 19th (17:36).
**Darrell Horacek Invite**
The Dell Rapids Public Quarriers traveled to West Central last week to the Sept. 24 cross country meet, bringing the team top performers across the varsity and junior varsity divisions.
For the varsity girls, Corynn Hoff came off best for the Quarriers, placing 14th with a 16:45 out of 73 runners.
“Corynn Hoff is really showing her leadership this year,” coach Steve Hegge said. “She is maintaining her skills as a very good runner.”
Also competing for Dells in the varsity race were Lexi Snyder (21st, 17:22), Shaylee Hoff (22nd, 17:23), Averi Pankonen (28th, 17:49) and Rachel Devlin (38th, 18:31).
The junior varsity girls race included 72 runners, with Dell Rapids placing three in the top five. Kaylee Hennen (3rd, 18:47), Mikayla DeNoon (4th, 19:13) and Melanie Wilke (5th, 19:21) excelled for the Quarriers.
“Seventh grader Kaylee Hennen and eighth grader Mikayla DeNoon are really improving as the year goes on,” Hegge said. “They run with a lot of heart.”
Also running for the Quarriers in the JV run were Kalista Graham (22nd, 20:14), Lindsey Morris (23rd, 20:20), Amanda Tomes (34th, 20:52) and Christina Anderson (56th, 23:09).
For the boys varsity efforts, Zane Schumaker finished best for Dells, placing 30th (19:21) in a competitive 88-person field.
“Zane Schumaker is stepping up and showing a lot of courage as the season goes on,” Hegge said of the athlete’s efforts.
Also competing for Dell Rapids in the varsity boys run were Nick Holmes (49th, 20:27), Brett Mogen (52nd, 20:31) and Alec Riswold (57th, 20:43).
Rounding out the Quarriers’ showing at the West Central meet were the junior varsity runners, led by Caleb Kirschenmann’s eighth place (16:03).
“Caleb Kirschenmann is having a super year as a seventh grader,” Hegge said. “Finishing in the top 10 in JV races – he works hard and has a positive attitude.”
Competing with the JV boys were Sam VanVoorst (24th, 16:44), Jason Cook (29th, 17:00) and Luke Snoozy (39th, 17:18).
**Lennox Invite**
The Dell Rapids Quarriers continued the week’s meets with a trip to Lennox Sept. 28.
