Bulldogs take on Tri-Valley Conf. play

Kicking off with a neighborly rivalry Sept. 25 versus the Dell Rapids St. Mary Cardinals, the Baltic Bulldog volleyball squad took on Tri-Valley Conference play the remainder of the week.
The Tuesday match versus Dells brought the Bulldogs a victory, outdoing the Cardinals 3-1 (22-25, 28-26, 25-15, 25-23). Allie Walter led the Baltic girls with 11 kills, five blocks, five digs and six aces for the night, while Jenna Brende picked up six kills and three digs.
Assisting in the Bulldog efforts were Morgan Forsch’s six kills and Michelle Schwab’s five. Abby Weinzetl picked up 17 set assists in the four-round match.
Coach Matt Konz also cited the “C” squad’s efforts at the match, outdoing St. Mary with set scores of 25-10 and 26-24, while the junior varsity face-off went to Dell Rapids, with 25-7, 21-25 and 10-15 set scores.
Picking up with the Tri-Valley Conference Tournament Sept. 27, Baltic first faced Centerville at the Alcester-Hudson-hosted match-up. The local girls took down their opponents in a 3-0 result (25-17, 25-15, 25-11).
Konz lauded Walter’s eight kills and four digs, as well as Forsch’s four kills and four digs to help lead the team, while Brende took down three kills and three digs, and Hunter Roberts provided 11 aces. Additionally, Weinzetl contributed seven set assists for the Baltic team.
The second round of conference play pitted the Bulldogs against host team Alcester-Hudson, with the latter taking the win (16-25, 15-25, 20-25).
Weinzetl kicked up eight set assists for the team, while Forsch took five blocks and four aces. Brende connected with three kills and four digs, and Walter rounded out the Baltic effort with 13 kills and four blocks.
The Saturday third-place round sent the girls to Centerville, where the team fell to Gayville-Volin, bringing its season tally to 8-7.
Walter brought in seven kills for the squad, while Forsch maintained with six and Brende five.
