Sports Briefs: Cheer teams take top class marks; Bulldog VB outdoes Centerville, Freeman

**Baltic Volleyball**
Coach Matt Konz lauded the Baltic Bulldog volleyball players for a “well-rounded game” last week, as the team took on Centerville Sept. 11.
Baltic came out on top 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-17), while the JV took the match as well, 2-1 (22-25, 25-9, 15-13).
Jenna Brende picked up three kills and five digs on the match, while Allie Walter tallied nine kills and five aces.
Hunter Roberts picked up five aces, and Abby Weinzetl contributed 12 set assists. Morgan Forsch rounded out the squad’s efforts with seven kills.
“We played well as a team and passed the ball well,” Konz said. “Proud of their effort.”
The girls then took on Freeman Academy at home Sept. 13, winning the match 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-8).
Walter picked up nine kills and 12 aces serves at the home meet, while Weinzetl logged seven set assists and Forsch knocked down four kills. Michelle Schwab tallied three kills for Baltic, and Brende racked up three kills and three digs.
**St. Mary Volleyball**
St. Mary’s volleyball squad faced down Marion in an away meet Sept. 10, with the Dells girls dropping the match 0-3 (21-25, 12-25, 18-25).
Tori Michel contributed five assists to the St. Mary cause, while Danielle Fiegen and Mikayla Brown took down five and four kills, respectively.
Kelly Michel blocked two Marion attempts, and LeBrun served three aces.
**Dell Rapids Cross Country**
The Hardee’s Invitational Sept. 8 brought Dell Rapids Quarrier cross country competitors to the field, with the varsity girls taking sixth in team rankings.
Top-ranked competitors for the varsity girls were Corynn Hoff (7th place, 17:26), Lexi Snyder (21st, 17:53), Shaylee Hoff (22nd, 18:00), Averi Pankonen (28th, 18:15) and Jessica Tisher (38th, 19:19).
In the varsity boys division were Alec Reams (46th, 20:33) and Alec Riswold (54th, 22:09) in the 65-wide field of runners.
In the junior varsity competition, the Quarriers ranked Kaylee Hennen in fourth for the girls division (13:55). Other runners for Dells included Lindsey Morris (13th, 14:34) and Melanie Wilke (20th, 14:58).
For the JV boys, Dells ran Zane Schumaker (5th, 15:47), Ted DeLange (9th, 16:12), Brett Mogen (16th, 16:43), Caleb Kirschenmann (17th, 16:47) and Nick Holmes (18th, 16:49).
**Dell Rapids/St. Mary Cheer**
The Brookings Cheer and Dance Invitational last weekend brought both local cheer teams, Dell Rapids Public and St. Mary, to the mix of compeition.
Sioux Falls O’Gormon picked up the highest total score of the 17 teams competing, with 256.5, followed by Sioux Falls Washington (248.5).
St. Mary ranked the highest amongst Class B schools, totaling 189 and placing seventh overall, versus both Class AA and Class A schools.
The Quarriers also ranked first in their own class, pulling in 183.5 in points and eighth place overall.
