Volleyball: Quarrier girls log six matches in week

An engagement with Canton last Tuesday led the Quarrier volleyball team to a loss in the varsity match and wins in both the junior varsity and “C” squad matches.
The Dells girls’ varsity lineup posted set scores of 18-25, 25-22, 18-25 and 17-25 to fall 3-1 to the C-Hawks.
Coach Dale Solberg cited leadership from Sarah Haak, who brought in 18 set assists, and Morgan Holund, who contributed 17 digs for Dell Rapids.
“This match is one we need to forget and move on,” he said. “We were flat, and our performance reflected it. We need to continue to work hard at improving in all facets of the game.”
The coach additionally cited work from Aleza Kirschenmann, picking up 10 digs, Margo Hegge, knocking down eight kills, and McKenzie Rinehart, nailing six kills.
The junior varsity team posted set scores of 25-18, 21-25 and 15-11, while the “C” girls took the match with 25-16 and 25-19 set scores.
Brtinay Welbig and Mikaela Adams led the JV defensive line, while Shelby Wrage brought in the defensive heat. The “C” team was led offensively by Mara Adams, Alexa DeVos and Hannah Welbig, while Shelby Wrage and Bailey Munk led the defensive push.
The girls next faced Tri-Valley Thursday, with the varsity girls falling 3-0 (24-26, 13-25, 9-25), the JV falling 2-0 (16-25, 14-25) and the “C” team taking the win 2-0 (25-15, 25-16).
“We couldn’t control the nets, and the Mustangs dominated us,” Solberg said. “We had our moments, but we have to start putting our little runs together. It really starts with our first pass and blocking.”
Hegge picked up seven kills for the varsity team, while Cassidy Wright tallied six kills and a block. Hoglund racked up 18 digs.
Saturday brought the Quarriers to Lake Preston, with the Dells team dropping the opening round to Arlington 2-0 (11-25, 19-25) and winning the second versus Estelline 2-0 (25-14, 25-17).
The Quarriers closed out the third match of the day with another win versus De Smet 2-1 (25-18, 16-25, 25-14), but the Arlington players ended the day defeating Dells in the final round 2-0 (22-25, 11-25).
Hegge picked up 30 service points at the invite, while Wright knocked down 18 kills and Madie Vietor 17. Haak picked up 54 set assists, and Hoglund grabbed 42 digs.
