With two games now under their belts, the Dell Rapids Quarrier football players have kicked off the season with a double win versus Canton at home and West Central on the road.
Starting with the team’s first game of the season, and first home match-up, versus the Canton C-Hawks, the Quarriers had seemingly no trouble cleaning up.
The Dells team held the C-Hawks to no scoring until the final quarter of the game, as the Quarriers racked up six touchdowns prior to Canton’s first.
The first quarter brought a 49-yard pass courtesy of Matt Kolbeck that landed receiver Bryce Koch in the end zone, while Michael McGee ran the Quarriers’ second first-quarter touchdown off of a 13-yard jaunt.
The second quarter brought Cole Langer a seven-yard run that led him to a score for the Quarriers, while Lane LeBrun ran in the second touchdown of the half to bring the score to 26-0, taking into account Zach White’s two successful kicks.
The streak continued through the third and fourth quarters, as Langer ran a 39-yard sprint to score in the third and Brett Nichols ran in an additional touchdown in the fourth. It wasn’t until the Dells team had reached 39 points that the C-Hawks brought in their sole touchdown in the fourth quarter, ending the game 39-7.
Leading the Quarriers in rushing, Langer accumulated 97 yards to LeBrun’s 51. Nichols additionally rushed for 39 yards, while Riley Schmidt picked up 37.
Kolbeck racked up 83 yards in passing, while Koch led in received yards, with 49.
Langer proved effective on defense, tackling 11 times throughout the night, while LeBrun connected five and White three.
The Quarriers then traveled to Hartford for the Trojan match last Friday night. The West Central boys kept closer tabs on the Dell Rapids players, scoring the first touchdown of the night in the first quarter. The Quarriers tied up the game courtesy of a 92-yard kick return from Schmidt before pulling ahead by the halfway mark.
Langer ran in two touchdowns in the second quarter to set the score at 20-7 at the half.
The Trojans battled back in the third, scoring once more, before Dell Rapids sealed the deal in the final period, with Koch picking up an 11-yard pass from Kolbeck to finish the game 28-14.
Langer again led in rushing, with 161 yards, while LeBrun assisted with 57 and Schmidt 14. Kolbeck picked up 71 in passing yardage for the match, while Langer tallied 17.
Defensively, Langer led with 8.5 tackles, while LeBrun put up 4.5 and Peter Nebben four.
