St. Mary hosts first home VB match
Cardinal girls compete in Arlington, ORR events

In last week’s matches, the Dell Rapids St. Mary volleyball team took on competition at home and on the road, facing opponents Oldham-Ramona/Rutland (ORR) and Arlington.
The girls first hosted ORR to a four-game match, dropping the home outing 3-1 to the Raiders on Aug. 28.
The Cardinal girls kept close tabs on the ORR squad throughout the night as the first two matches ended in tight scores of 25-19 and 25-21. The St. Mary team then battled back with a 25-21 favorable result in game three.
The match closed out, though, when the ORR visiting team edged the fourth with a 25-20 final score.
Danielle Fiegen led the girls in serving, nailing five aces for the night, while Lexie LeBrun tallied three for the team. Rounding out the ace successes were Tori Michel and Mikayla Brown, with two apiece.
Kelly Michel and Anna Maxwell brought the team 13 digs each for the match, while Brown picked up 12 and LeBrun 11.
Tori Michel additionally set up four assists, while LeBrun knocked down three kills to Rachel Scholten, Fiegen and Brown’s two each.
The girls then traveled to Arlington last Thursday night to a match that yielded a 3-0 loss for the St. Mary players.
The Arlington Cardinals took three games on the night, 25-11, 25-20 and 25-8, to earn the match win.
Kelly Michel again led in digs, picking up nine of them for the Arlington match-up, while Brown and Maxwell each took five digs.
Tori Michel also picked up five assists for the St. Mary squad, while Fiegen and Scholten each assisted once for the night.
LeBrun brought the team its sole ace for the Arlington Cardinal event, while Brown led in kills, kicking up four. Scholten contributed two additional kills, and Tori Michel, Kelly Michel, LeBrun and Fiegen each knocked down one.
Next up for the Dells Cardinals is a Sept. 6 home match versus Castlewood.
